Pest Management Services in Laurel
Pest control and management refers to any system or measure that seeks to eliminate or regulate the population of insects considered harmful to human and animal health and the environment. Pest control in Laurel MS requires a lot of work and resources but it is a necessity, especially for homes. Here are the reasons why pest management is important and why every homeowner should consider applying it:
1. Preventing damage to homes and structures
In the U.S., people spend about $5 billion for the repair of damages caused by termite infestation. Termites consume wood and wood products such as ply-board and paper. Once they have burrowed into the wood components of the home, they can eat beams, floorings and walls from the inside. This makes the structure weak and vulnerable to collapse, leaving household members at a risk. Termite infestation can be especially problematic in older homes and structures that have not been treated. In areas where termites are known pests, managing a home to keep it safe from termites requires constant vigilance and assistance from pest control agencies.
2. Preventing allergies
Pests can cause a range of issues in people, such as skin allergies, asthma and other respiratory problems. Bed bugs and mosquitoes, for example, are notorious for causing skin rashes. Pests can also carry certain allegens that can cause strong allergic reactions in some people. Cockroaches, for example, can cause allergies in at least 7% of the population. They are also one of the leading causes of asthma in children.
3. Avoiding diseases and other health risks
Leprosy, skin infections, urinary tract infections, Lyme disease, intestinal infections, dysentery, dengue, malaria and food poisoning are just a few of the diseases and health problems that pests can cause. They also carry a number of bacteria and viruses that can affect human and animal health. Although many of these diseases are treatable, they can cause serious health issues in children, the elderly and immune-compromised individuals, many of whom will require professional medical treatment or hospitalization. That, in turn, can translate to millions of dollars in medical costs.
4. Preventing damage and deterioration of furniture, carpets and clothes
Pest control has to be applied in order to save furniture, carpets and clothing and avoid the expenses associated with repairs and replacements. Burrowing insects are notorious for causing damage to the wooden and fabric components of furniture. Some, such as carpet bugs, moths, cockroaches and silverfish are also attracted to fabric, often using it as a source of food.
5. Maintenance of food supply
Food supply is critical to the survival of the world’s populations. On a macro economic level, it also influences the world’s economies and supports majority of today’s active industries. Without proper pest management, almost 20% of our food supply will be wasted due to consumption of rodents. Each year, millions of dollars’ worth of food is lost to rodent attacks and infestation. By controlling the threat, it is possible to keep food supplies at manageable and useful levels. On the Laurel Mississippi home-front, implementing pest control measures can help prevent food waste and contamination. Pests do not only consume food, they also leave behind undesirable organic matter such as dead skin, body parts, feces and urine, all of which can affect the quality of the food we eat.

Some Common Q & A’s
Does Pest Exterminators Get Rid Of Bugs/Rats Etc Once And For All?
No. It's like grass: mowing the lawn once does not mean you'll never have to do it again. Bugs and pests return. Exterminators do have maintenance plans, where they can visit on a regular basis.
What Is Meant By The Concept Of &Quot;Acceptable Loss&Quot;?
This Has To Do With Integrated Pest Management.
Well, pest management is the control of pests, generally in crops or possibly in housing...
I'd assume that "acceptable losses" is the manount of loos or damage to the crop or structure you're trying to eradicate pests from, in order to get them eradicated.
IE, what percentage of a crop are you willing to sacrifice in order to remove an acceptable amount of pests from the whole? Or, if we're talking structurally, how much of a structure are you willing to lose in order to get at the root of a problem?
Say you have termites. How much of the wood in your house are you willing to tear out and replace in order to find and eradicate the main nest and any other major sites of infestation?
Or in crops, let's say you have some kind of larva eating your crops, and you wish to get rid of the larva before they eat everything. If the control method may kill more larva the longer you use it, but may also damage the crops over time, how much of the crop are you willing to sacrifice to eliminate an acceptable level of pests from the crops that survive, so you still have enough quality and quantity of crops to harvest?
Though I'm not in pest control, I'd assume this is what they're getting at.
Pest control tips to keep in mind;
1. bleach kills all life known to man, and will even destroy some proteins
2. most rodents do not like pellet guns or rat/mouse traps (not just rats/mice) and chunky peanut butter is the best bait if you shove one little nut in the little notch on the trigger.(they won't leave without that last bit)
3 . most pests cannot make it through aluminum screening
4. most pests cannot survive a good swing from a baseball bat or real mallet or hammer of any kind, or a good stomp from a heavy boot. some will and may require a second blow and perhaps a third for good measure
5. have-a-heart traps are heartless if not checked daily(how much bait are you actually using?)
6. most pests do not like guns of any kind (nail or bullet)
7. most pests like garbage that is not tainted with bleach
8. all pests dislike Raid and other such products (insect or mammalian)
9. any pest over 35lbs may require a firearm (unless you don't like your fingers and in some cases your face and life) or an implement of destruction such as a crow bar, a 10lbs sledge, or an ax
10. pests smaller than your hand are surprisingly strong and often sting, bite, or pinch
11. some pest situations may require a professional (if quantity over 75 or weighs more than 35lbs)
12. pests over 100lbs may require more ammo, a steady eye, or a large check to the local pest controller
13. try to avoid hospital trips while or after dealing with you pest problem
14. fire crackers are a great cover up for any pest removal method that may include a pest over 35lbs
Pest Control Companies???
A Pest Control Company Put Those Tubes In My Walls While The Builder Built The House. The Tubes Are So The Pest Control Company Can Spray Into Those Tubes But It Gets Expensive. They Also Want Me To Commit To At Least 4 Visits. Should I Use That Company Or Hire A Different Pest Control Company?
Just my opinion they're scams, personally I have a company come out yearly, I use to maintain their roofs on a lot of rental property they own. Once when I was young a girl friend moved in with her roaches. Well this company would come out spray and there would be dead roaches every where. Few days just as many as ever, they told me coming in with the grocery bags. Being in the roofing business I knew of roofer looking at commercial roofs intentionally punching holes with their boots especially in areas where the building always leaked. Nope there only has to be a few rotten apples to make the whole bunch go bad. Knowing what I know and being a bit peeved, but also being aware I had money to lose also in their business, I made a luncheon appointment with the owner gingerly approached my problem, and ask what kind of roofer would you think I was if ever time I fixed your leak, I needed to go fix it again the next time it rained. Now I wasn't risking everything, if I wasn't good at what I did for him he'd of got another roofer. Result's they came out the next day, took a little longer, and I've never had roaches again. Although one reason is I know how to take care of them myself. Termites I can take care of myself, why do I pay them to come out once a year, well like everybody I don't pay attention and termites can destroy a whole lot more than roaches can. I know how to change furnace filters too, and they usually don't get changed often enough. But 4 times a year, that's out right theft. You have my opinion I sure would hire a company the came out once a year for inspections instead of four, I would go to wikipedia and read about the telltale signs of Termites . It always pays to be educated. I put the termite source below but just something to look for. Termites cannot crawl into your house from the outside, they are harmed by the sun and things trying to eat them. So they build these tunnels from the ground(they live in the ground not your house) up the concrete wall under your sidling wherever they can these tunnels(source has pictures) look like mud dabbers nest that are more in a contiguous line up the wall. You see these you have a problem I could tell you how to get rid of them, yourself if you wanted me too, but having a reputable exterminator come out once a year and give you a warranty. Mine charges 60 bucks a year, and it goes on forever. if I want. If they need to treat then it's just part of the 60 bucks. Yes what you are in is a scam.
Did Ecosmart Home Pest Control Work For You?
I Know It Smells, I Dont Care. Did It Work By Preventing Bugs From Coming Into Your Home? We Just Sprayed, And Found A Bug And Sprayed That And It Did Die On Contact - But I Want To Know If It Will Prevent The Bugs From Coming Into The House Too - As It Claims.
the way most of the products you buy at the store are formulated they will not last very long on the outside. doesnt matter if its an "eco" type product or a synthetic pyrethroid i.e home defense. they should all kill on contact.. eco products are particularly good for this because no bugs have developed any resistances to these. but if you are looking for something to protect your home for months at a time you would probably need to call a professional.
Also, dont let the name Ecosmart fool you..unless the active ingredients are only natural oils its not all "natural". There are plenty of products out there with "eco" in the name that are made with synthetic chemicals in addition too plant based chemicals
