Did I Select Good Jobs For The Af?
I Chose These Jobs During My Selection Process At Meps...And Then I Swore In, Does Anyone Know Anything About Them?...I Didnt Qualify For A Open Contract Because My Score Was Low So I Wont Get A Open Contract, I Will Go To Basic With A Guareenteed Job...
A- Traffic Management, Information Management
G-Aircrew Life Support, Maintenance Scheduling, Pest Control Management, Fire Protection, Services
E- Electrical Systems
And These Were All The Jobs I Qualified For...I Also Qualified For Security Forces But Chose Not To Add That On My List.
Even though you have initially swore in, you are not bound to the AF. That won't happen until you step on the plane or what have you, to BMT at Lackland AFB.
As for the jobs, that all depends on what your interests are. I have friends who loved doing HVAC, and others who hated it. Same for Information Management, Life Support, and Services. Think about what your itnerests are and make a decision based on that.
How Does One Become A Pest Control Operator, Or &Quot;Exterminator&Quot;?
I Live In Florida. Is It As Simple As Getting A Job With An Experienced Operator And Learning The Trade, Or Do I Need To Get Licensed?
How Do I Go About Doing This?
you can do it 2 ways. in both cases, you will need to get a licence to do it. every state requres a licence, and every state has a different requrement for it. im located in CA , and there are different licences for everything.much like drivers licences. i've been told for example, in oregon, there is only one class licence. generaly the pest board ,which will issue any guidelines to the pest companies, is governed by the agricultural department. do a simple web search, on either one, and you will get a lot more curent info. a web site which is almost a "must read" is : pest-web.com.
1st way is to get licenced yourself, and then look for a job, as a lot of companies will hire only licenced folks. those tend to be the smaller companies normaly.
you can get a licence,by going to the local county office, and checking to see where, when, and how much it will cost you to do it. here , in CA ,to get the most simple licence, doesnt cost much. costed my company about $15-20 (as of 2004). if you fail the exam, you are allowed to take it again. again,in similar fashion like an ordinary drivers licence.
have in mind, that there is a requarement, that,in order to get a licence, when you pass the exam, you will need to get a "live scan". at least thats how its in CA. live scan is,basicaly fingerprinting you digitaly, and geting some basic info, like full name, ect.
2nd way to get a licence is, the way i did. a lot of companies will train and teach you ,untill you are ready to get the exam. have in mind, that in CA , to get the licence, you will need to have certain # of hours experience. i would asume, that this is valid in most other states too. you gain the experience, by working for the company, and generaly they will buddy you up,with an experienced tech. who will work with you in the field.
so, in short ,you can get the licence yourself,or find a company who is willing to help you do it.
few thoughts in general....
every state has its own laws regarding operators, licences, and chemicals. make sure that you arent planning to move any time soon, otherwise you would have to start all over again.many chemicals arent allowed in every state, so , what you will be learning, will pertain to the state you will be licenced in.
i already mentioned pest-web.com. you can find pest companies's web sites , like orkin's ,terminex, ect. a lot of time, they would have some usefull info,as well as job oppenings, and requarements for them. even if you arent sure, book an interview. you loose nothing by going to it,and you will find out for sure whats what.
whether you start geting experience, either with a company, or by yourself, i would sujest ,safety first ! dont forget, you will be woprking with chemicals. some are as strong as windex, but others are 10,20 or more times stronger.it may take some time to get used to working with gloves, and or a respirator .those 2 are standart work gear for any pest tech. most companies will want you to work in full uniform, which also includes long sleeve shirt. you mentioned you live in florida. make sure you can work wearing full size pants, long sleeve shirt ,a respirator, gloves, and most likely booths,at the same time, while working in the daylight, while its hot (and humid in your case).while that may seem hard to bare at first, it takes a short time to get used to it.
no mather what you do, always follow pest guidelines, set by your state. if you do not,and you get cought, worst case scenario is, that will be doing jail time. pesticides fall under restricted products generaly, and every state is strict and specific about it.
i laready mentioned safety first.make sure your gear (respirator, ect) is always functioning properly. after all , you work with chemicals, and improper use , may cause to get sick. i've never personaly heard of anyone geting seriously ill , but its a posibility. much like , if you arent driving safely 🙂 .
such job isnt for everyone. make sure you are comfortable with removing dead rats, birds, ect, from people's atticks or basements. also, forget what you know, or think you know, from friends, media, ect. more then 9 out of 10 cases, the info you will get from "conventional" resourse will be untrue. for example, using the so called electronic pest "repelant" devices you see advertized on tv.any ppro will die laughing if you mention one. if you arent at least a little bit of a "people's person" you may have hard time, since you will be interacting non stop with cutomers, and each one of them have their own needs, wants, and ideas about it.
thats about it. make sure you visit pest-web . com.know that if you want o be licenced, you will have to submit extensive info ,not just presenting your ID to a future employer. most likely , you will be requared to undergo physical and drug tests on reg basis.
Weathering On Roof Eaves?
On My Pest Inspection I Had To Fix The Eaves On The Roof Due To Weathering And Possible Fungus. It Was A Very Small Part That Was Infected Maybe About The Size Of A Dollar Bill. I Cut Out 6 Foot Sections And Replaced Them On Both Sides Since It Needed It. The Eaves Are About 16 Feet Long And I Didn'T Want To Replace The Whole Piece. They But Up Pretty Well Against The Piece I Cut Out And I Used Some Wood Filler To Try And Make It Look Like One Piece. My Question Is Will This Pass The Re Inspection?
if it's just a pest inspection then it should pass. the type of repair you are talking about is very common and it sounds like you did a good job. the only other thing to do would be paint the whole 16 foot length.
Need Help: Fumigation Notice ?
I Would Be Very Much Obliged For Some Advice!
I Live In A Rental Building In Santa Monica California. We Just Received A Notice To Temporarily Relocate Because Of Fumigation For Termites. This Is Causing Me A Lot Of Trouble, Besides Making Me Feel That I Have No Control Over My Own Home. I Am Trying To Find Out What Legal Rights I Have To Oppose The Notice And Not Comply. Here Are Some Facts:
1) I Work From Home. The Landlord Wants To Do The Fumigation From Tuesday To Thursday And To Pay Us For 2 Days Of Being Out. This Means That I Am Losing Two Days Of Work Besides The Fact That I Am Supposed To Do All Types Of Preliminary Preparations Before And After Meaning That It Will Take 4 Days. It May Take Longer If They Decide That It Will Take 3 Of 4 Days Instead Of The 2 They Are Proposing. So My Work Week Is Shut.
2) I Have A Lot Of Technical Equipment In The Apt. And Have No Insurance. The Apt. Will Be Open To Traffic (Fumigation Personnel, Gas Co. People, Etc...), Plus The Fumigation Co. In Its Contract States That They Are Not Responsible For Any Kind Of Theft, Damage, Etc.. Plus, The Management Co. Did Not Mention Providing Any Security And The Building Will Be Wide Open While It Is Being Ventilated.
3) The Fumigation Is Not Necessary: There Is Only One Apt. Situated At The Corner Of The Building That Is Having A Problem. I Have Lived In The Building For 5 Years. Plus They Are Using Vikane. Do We Know If This Highly Toxic Pesticide Has Any Effects On Technical Equipment?
Question: Do I Have To Sign Anything? Can I Just Refuse Entry? What Exactly Are My Legal Rights?
Thanks A Lot! I Really, Really Appreciate Your Help!
Well, I think the other answers cover your problem with relation to your rights as a tenant, but be sure to do your own research on tenant-landlord rights and responsibilities in your area.
The contract between the landlord and the company seems to make you think that there will be no security on site during all phases of the fumigation. It would be up to you to provide security at your expense if you so desired.
The landlord and the termite specialists have determined that it is necessary to fumigate this structure. Trust me, you are one many other issues that are in this picture. The landlord has a lot of expense to deal with beyond just one unit's tenant use/loss of use. I suggest talking with them about arrangements that you may be making to safeguard your property.
Pest control companies performing fumigation perform hundreds if not thousands of jobs each year and have their name on the line. Most companies are reputable. Check out the company with your local inspectors, probably Cal DPR.
Vikane is a colorless, odorless product that is designed specifically for structural fumigations. It will leave no residue as it is a true gas. There will be no damage to any items you have mentioned. The exception being to any open-flame or high heat dehumidifiers. In these cases, the flame, or high heat dehumidifier may cause a local reaction with the product that may cause etching. All pilot lights and dehumidifiers (such as those in organs, art cases, etc) should be extinguished and/or turned off. Your technical equipment is a concern to you, your motto at this point should be "when in doubt, take it out". You will be given a preparation sheet describing what you must do to prepare for this job. Be sure to adhere to the instructions.
You will also have to grant access to all areas of the house (no locked bedrooms, closets) so be sure to make arrangements with the landlord. If you don't, they may opt to open them for you. This is for safety, we wouldn't want someone to be locked inside!
Legal rights, again, should be discussed with a professional on these matters. There is probably some aid/advice available on your rights as a tenant, but honestly you just need to go with the flow and be glad the termites will be killed instead of eating up your stuff, too.
